FAQ

Helpful information

IS KAMBO SAFE?

Kambo is completely safe when used properly under the care of a trained practitioner. One potential harm is when there is undisclosed information about substances taken prior to the session, as there are a few contraindications. The greatest potential threat is Hyponatremia, which concerns water intake and not the medicine. Please be sure to inform your practitioner of all medication, supplements and any other substances taken in the six months months prior. Please also be aware that mental illnesses are important to discuss with your practitioner prior to the session, and may, or may not be a contraindication.

IS KAMBO LEGAL?

Yes, Kambo is 100% legal.  In Brazil it’s forbidden to advertise the benefits of Kambo, but practice is allowed.

WILL I GET PERMANENT SCARS?

Depending on your skin color and type, the gate marks will fade and then disappear in time. After the treatment is complete, the burns are covered with Dragon's Blood, which ensures optimal healing and prevents the likelihood of an infection. Proper care and awareness will take care of the rest.

Many actually appreciate the marks and wear them as a badge of honor. Those who have a consistent practice with Kambo even have their gates arranged into beautiful patterns and designs.

WILL I HALLUCINATE OR RECEIVE VISIONS DURING A KAMBO TREATMENT?

Even though Kambo is not a hallucinogenic, it may alter your state of mind for a few minutes – a number of people have reported receiving messages and insights. Often visions come in the form of clarity in the resting period after the medicine has been removed.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I DO KAMBO?

It all depends on what you are looking to achieve from the treatment, or your personal relationship with Kambo. Some traditions recommend doing Kambo every new moon to maintain a healthy immune system. One should (typically) not use Kambo more than 10-12 times a year.

According to the Matses, “When things aren’t going right in your life, it’s the right time to take Kambo”.

I tell my clients that the frog will let them know when it is time.

CAN I USE THE SAME GATES FOR OTHER TREATMENTS?

Yes, but only after the gates have properly healed which will take about 2-3 months.

DO I HAVE TO PURGE?

It's likely! And it's also likely that it feels much more cathartic than uncomfortable. Purging can take on multiple forms including vomiting, crying, defecation, sweating and so on.

A herximer reaction is a natural immune response Kambo's ability to locate and move bacterial, fungal, parasitic, and viral infections in and out of the body. While unpleasant, herxing is actually a very good sign of a successful treatment. It just takes a bit longer for the toxins/bacteria to die-off and exit the body. Herxing is not common, but it more likely for those with autoimmune conditions such as Lyme.
